Mud (2017)
Industrial semi-product becomes product. As designers we drill, screw, weld, staple, glue and tie. Through connecting and manipulating semi-products we make loose parts a product. The dimensions that the industry manufactures, define what can be made with them. “Mud” shows the semi-product as purely as it was manufactured. By pressing this rough industry product into soft clay a joint is formed, able to connect any material or shape. The precision of the industry is opposed to the soft connection of the hand formed, primeval clay. This simple, almost primitive technique asks for no time consuming labor, it’s a precise but still intuitive way of connecting. Contrary shapes of round and square which would otherwise be rolling around are kept in place by the fired mud joint. Only by the means of weight and positioning loose parts slot together and form a stable bench. 250cm * 45cm * 45cmFired Clay, Aluminium, Concrete
